One of the problems we have is testing our film stock that we have sourced. This is where we need your help. Sign up below and we will put on our tester programme – this means we will supply you with 3 rolls of film (12 – 16 exposures and it may be remjet or remjet free) and we ask that you shoot out all rolls and return to us for processing. The only think we ask is that you pay for shipping which will be about R110 one way and another R110 (about R220 in total via Postnet) returning the exposed film to us within 3 weeks of receiving it. We will scan the negatives, upload the digital files and show the community the results (or non-results).

Please note that we cannot be held liable for any co-incidental damages – to your equipment or to yourself!

Applications now closed for this round of testing.

ExpiredFilm Tester Program — Shooting & Feedback Guide

Remjet-free motion picture film samples (≈14 exposures) • ECN-2 or C-41 • Kodak 5279 · Fuji 8516 · Eastman 5247

Thanks for testing our Remjet-Free Motion Picture Film for 35 mm cameras. Each pack contains a short strip (~14 exposures). Please follow the simple shooting plan below and share your results — every frame helps us refine colour and contrast.

What’s in Your Pack

All stocks are Remjet-free and safe for ECN-2 or C-41 (cross-process). For most daylight scenes, plan for a touch of overexposure.
Film Stock Original ISO Suggested ISO Notes
Kodak 5279 (Vision 500T) 500T (Tungsten) 100–200 Warm tones, cinematic contrast; higher grain expected.
Fuji 8516 (250T) 250T (Tungsten) 100 Pastel colour balance; looks great with +1 to +2 stops.
Eastman 5247 (125D) 125D (Daylight) 64–100 Clean daylight palette; generous latitude.

Tip: If you’re unsure, lean toward slight overexposure rather than under.

Shooting Recommendations

  • Daylight: Overexpose by ~1 stop for better shadow detail.
  • Tungsten/Indoor: Use stock’s native rating (e.g. 250T at ISO 250). Expect a warm cast.
  • Avoid mixed light where possible (daylight + tungsten in the same frame).

Development Notes

Process: ECN-2 or C-41 (cross-process).
Remjet: Already removed — safe for C-41 minilabs.
Lab policy: Avoid labs that refuse motion-picture film unless they’re OK with Remjet-free stock.

Let Us Know Your Results

Share your scans and notes via email or link — it helps us dial in colour and contrast for future runs.

Include: film stock, camera/lens, lighting, which frames looked best (e.g. +1 stop vs –1 stop).

Quick FAQ

  • Can I shoot at box speed? Yes, but most testers prefer +1 stop in daylight for smoother shadows.
  • C-41 vs ECN-2? ECN-2 gives motion-picture tonality; C-41 adds punchier contrast/saturation.
  • Any lab warnings? Film is Remjet-free; still check your lab’s policy on “cine film.”
